Nice Painting! Reminds me of our barn (torn down) because it looked like your painting. You are right about this lifestyle disappearing.

Thanks Jean. It's sad to watch this old wood structures deteriorate and then get torn down, and then worse, the property get filled with houses

Artist's Description

The remnants of a lifestyle that is fast disappearing, the suburban horse property. As property values soar it's hard for people that own horse property in suburban areas to justify the expense of keeping horses when they can cash in on selling the property. Or maybe it's just an older generation passing on and their children just not being interested in keeping the property. In this case it appears to be just a case of horses being to expensive to keep so they stopped and let the little barn deteriorate. I often walk by this barn on my way to the park, I suppose it's just a matter of time before the barn and tree are cleared and construction equipment moves in. This is a mixed media sketch, I started with a drawing in charcoal, added some watercolor washes and then more color using soft pastels.

About David King Studio

David King Studio

I've lived in northern Utah most of my life and enjoy exploring the landscape here especially the mountains and rural areas. I stick to the back roads looking for scenes that harken back to a simpler time and hike the mountains heeding the call of nature. In particular I love the abstract shapes of trees and especially when they interact with the geometric shapes of man made objects such as barns, trucks and tractors.
